HammondCare Darlinghurst offers a permanent home and residential aged care for older people facing or experiencing homelessness. Set in a homelike setting, the facility provides compassionate, trauma-informed care that helps residents regain stability and improve their quality of life. The multi-level home is divided into four apartments with single ensuite rooms, each with a distinct care profile to suit diverse needs. Modelled on a familiar household design, each apartment has a central domestic kitchen and a mix of shared living areas and quiet, comfortable spots to relax. Residents are never locked in or out and have an access code to come and go as they choose. The care team receives regular training in trauma care and mental health first aid, offering sensitive, tailored support in a place where people are valued, respected and supported. Through an evidence-based, person-centred approach, care promotes dignity, comfort, choice and safety, and HammondCare's Foundation helps residents access activities and services that support physical and mental wellbeing. Residents have experienced positive outcomes including decreased PTSD, maintained cognitive and physical ability, and better overall wellbeing.
